Welcome

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Albany Creek State School Special Education Program.  My appointment as Head Of Special Education Services in 2011 has provided an opportunity to build upon the solid reputation of our Program which was formally authorised in 1994.

Our highly qualified, warm, caring staff look forward to working with you to make your children’s years at Albany Creek State School a time to look back on with pride.

Special Education ServicesI encourage you to access the tabs which are located to the left of the screen and to provide feedback to staff on the usefulness of these resources.  In particular, we are constantly looking to update our Useful Resources section for parents / carers and ask that you recommend any resources you have found beneficial.

If you have any questions for any member of the team please don’t hesitate to telephone or drop in any time.

Chris Thomas
Head Of Special Education Services

Ways we Support our Students at Albany Creek State School

  • Curriculum support in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy, adjustments to class units, provision of resources and modified assessment tasks and strategies for classroom use for our students.
  • Emotional and social support either individually or in a small group. Social skills such as developing friendships and coping with change can be addressed.
  • Life skills training. Eg- road safety, cooking, looking after our bodies can all be provided if deemed necessary and appropriate.
  • Implementing fine and gross motor programs for our students who experience difficulties in these areas.
  • Parent support through collaborative planning, regular communication and/or providing information regarding external agency support.
  • Gathering and using data to effectively implement and monitor the Individual Education Plan ((IEP).
  • Assisting class teachers and parents develop, implement and review the Education Adjustment Plan (EAP).  Adjustments required for the student to maximise access to the curriculum are also listed in the IEP.  This is then reviewed on a pre-determined date.
  • Managing teacher-aide support within the classroom.

At Albany Creek State School we embrace the responsibility to promote and advocate for our students in the wider school as a springboard to the wider community in their later life.  We believe that we need to work as a team to provide for our students: a productive happy life.
